As we leave Jack, it is hard to focus upon anything other than his youthful energy and forceful spirit. He showed Ennis the tireless patience and sensitivity of a man deeply in love. Jack consistently sought the best in life, refusing society’s unrelenting urge to accept “beans.” Derided, humiliated as a dreamer, a “fuck up,” a “pissant,” Jack remained proud, hopeful, and strong.
