This is the authentic watering hole for Calgary’s very real rodeo cowboys. Enjoy a meal or a drink in this temple of testosterone. As you nurse your beer, and perhaps a fantasy or two, don’t forget to look above you to see an incomparable collection of well-worn prize rodeo saddles.

Jack did his financial research, and Lureen sounded her matin’ call, in the left rear bar area of Ranchman’s.

Our fellow site searcher and director of Calgary’s noted GLTBQ theatre company Teatro Berdache, Steve Gin, worked as an extra in this scene and later in the Electra Bar scene at the King Eddie. Steve tells us that after lagging behind the others in wardrobe and, quite naturally, makeup, he had to rush to set for filming. Passing a “cute guy” he assumed to be a production assistant, Steve asked for directions. “Cute guy” kindly pointed the way. Minutes later on set, it became apparent to Steve that the helpful fellow had been none other than Jake Gyllenhaal. During a break in filming, Jake turned to Steve and started a conversation, saying “Glad to see you got here all right!”
